Wedding Songs

Last night we were talking about the wedding. I asked L what song he thinks should be our wedding dance song. I told him I have something in mind and it’s a Goo Goo Dolls song. I asked him to guess what it is and he immediately said black balloon and he got it right haha! I then asked him what he thought of it and he said it was ok. Apparently he had something else in mind, and something better! At last, the first contribution of my future husband in planning this wedding is choosing the first dance song!

When we were just more than a year of being boyfriend/girlfriend, I made a video/photo compilation as a surprise to him (cheesy I KNOW! but it’s sweet haha) and he thought of the song that I used for that video to be our first dance song. It was perfect! He didn’t have to convince me, It was like a wedding proposal, I immediately said yes! =) I don’t want our wedding dance to be choreographed. I’ve seen a lot of first dances with WAY TOO MUCH choreography (with lifting and all!) and I find it tacky and, uhm, insincere and unromantic? If ever we decide (I’m kinda fickleminded remember?) to have it choreographed, I don’t want it to be fully choreographed! I want some parts of the dance wherein we’d just naturally sashay to the music and enjoy the beautiful song!

For the bridal march, we also agreed on this song and it’s non negotiable.

Warning, cheesy moment alert!

When we were still “dating”  (if you would call that dating),  we were infront of Holy Rosary Church when he kinda went on his knees and sang that song!!!!!!!!!!!! I know!!!! Back then, it gave me the chills and I cringed because I still didn’t like him then hahaha!! I can’t remember WHY he did that, I have very blurry memories of that night but I didn’t forget the song and the way he sang it – it was just OK haha (ok I felt like an American Idol judge after typing that)! That song is really perfect for the bridal march (at least for us)!

So there you go, I’m so happy that we chose songs that are meaningful to us. It’s only a small accomplishment but it feels good that slowly, details of the wedding are being finalized.

What’s been happening lately!!

Right before our Phuket trip, we were able to meet our ROM solemnizer. She is a Filipina and is married to a Singaporean thus she gained Singaporean citizenship and is able to solemnize ROM weddings. She gave us a mini interview, briefed us on things that will happen on the ROM day itself (funny as it will only be around 10 minutes or so) and she sent a copy of  the marriage vows to my email which she requires us to memorize! She said we could add our personal vows, but I’ll save that for the church wedding. Booking the ROM was a huge relief specially for me!!

When we came back to Singapore, we met our photographer for our ROM and he is shooting us for free. Yes, you read that right! For free! On our ROM wedding day,  it will only be L and I plus our two witnesses since we don’t have guests and  I realized, WHO WILL TAKE OUR PHOTOS? It will be a sucker if we don’t have decent/nice looking photos to document the short ceremony. I didn’t want us to spend on a professional photographer either since it’ll just be a very quick ceremony plus lunch. So I came up with a bright idea!! I scouted for freelance photographers in an online photography forum who are willing to shoot us for free. Several other photographers contacted me and some are even willing to give us free engagement shoots but I don’t we’re up for it yet. It’s too early! This particular photographer that we chose was easy to deal with and I’ve seen his portfolio and was really impressed!! =)

Now we’ll just need to buy our outfits for the ROM and we’ll be all set! I still need to file my leave though!

On the other hand, for the church wedding next year, we were already keen on booking Fontana but communicating with them is a pain in the a**! Even their banquet sales manager’s attitude sucks. I sent them an email in BIG BOLD RED LETTERS but to no avail. They kept ignoring my emails which in my opinion is very unprofessional. I don’t think I could cope up with the amount of stress that they will give me if I were to book them. So, to save myself from mini heart attacks every now and then, I am making Grand Palazzo as our second option. Actually, after I re-calculated all the costs, it looks like we’ll save around 50k if we’ll go with Grand Palazzo. I’ve sent them an email and hopefully they reply. I get very impatient when suppliers take a couple of days to reply. Nowadays it’s very easy to reply to emails thanks to  PDA phones so I really find late reply to emails unacceptable. But that’s just me!

We are also set to book Gilbert Obispo as our videographer. I already have the contract and I have yet to pay the downpayment tomorrow. For the photographer, I am really keen on booking Paolo Feliciano but his rates increased tremendously as compared to the last time I inquired from him. I’m still scouring for alternatives but it seems like my heart is set on booking him haha!

So far the major suppliers that I need to book ASAP are the following:

  • Venue
  • Photographer
  • Videographer
  • Make up artist
  • OTD coordinator
After that I could slow down with the preps and research on how to work out our my DIYs.
